AS 3003 and Aged Care Residences

Compliance with AS 3003 in Residential Aged Care projects became a matter of concern to many Aged Care Providers during 2015. The primary issue has been the impact on resident’s amenity due to the requirement for invasive signage and indication equipment however the cost of compliance are also not insignificant. Towards the end of 2015, we have successfully negotiated some reasonable exemptions to the requirements of AS 3003 which provide the desired increased level of safety without major impact on amenity at largely reduced costs. We look forward to working with ESV and all our Aged Care Clients to streamline the exemption process and develop a set of guidelines that can be published by ESV while we await with interest the issue of a draft amendment to the Standard for public comment, initially proposed to be published in September 2015.
